REQUIOUS: MODERN MUSIC THANATOLOGY

Polyphonic instruments have been clinically shown to reduce symptoms of anxiety and agitation, and can have a positive therapeutic impact on heart rate and respiration. They have been used in palliative care, hospice, grief-related, and end-of-life environments.

As a thanatologist, I’ve seen (and felt!) the incredible impact music can have as people navigate loss, stress, and transitions.

As the only thanatologist in the world with this euphone, I am excited to get to share the magnificence of this instrument with others, informed by my thanatological perspective.

This is how we can keep our grief moving, together.

WHAT DOES REQUIO.US MEAN?

Requious is a blend of the words requiem and curious.

Requiem is an act or token of remembrance, and also refers to a service held in honor of the dead. When I play my euphone, that is an act of remembrance for me, and hopefully creates a memorable experience for those listening.

Curious means strange, unusual and eager to know or learn something.

The website is www.Requio.us!

HAS THIS INSTRUMENT BEEN CLINICALLY STUDIED?

It will be soon! Thanks to the support of my Patreon supporters, we have a small amount of funding set aside to specifically study this instrument. Appropriately structured studies take time to prepare for, execute and process, and our optimistic timeline is 2025. The study is housed under the ThanaLab at the School of American Thanatology.
